Autopsy set today on Paducah inmate
An autopsy will be performed today on Phillip Edwin Hinchey, who was found dead in his bed Thursday morning at the McCracken County Regional Jail.
Jailer Bill Adams said Hinchey, 56, had been in jail since Tuesday after pleading guilty to a felony charge of driving while intoxicated. He was found in his bunk at about 6:12 a.m. during a routine bed check. „He apparently died in his sleep,‰ Adams said.
Other inmates said they saw him „tossing and turning‰ shortly before 5 a.m.
Coroner Dan Sims said the preliminary indication is that he died of natural causes. „There were no marks on his body or anything else to indicate he was a victim of foul play,‰ Sims said.
Hinchey on Wednesday had undergone a routine medical examination that is given to all new inmates, Adams said.
He said Hinchey was taking medication for heart problems and showed no signs of ill health Wednesday.
