Joe Rupcke Escape
January 3, 2005
A 23 year old inmate is on the run after running from a kitchen trash detail. Joe Rupcke had served 113 days of a 365 day sentence on a charge of assault 2nd degree.
Rupcke had been working in the jail kitchen since November 4th 2004 and had received no serious write ups. Rupcke was on the community work service program which allows inmates to receive one day off their sentence for every five days they work. He was under supervision at the time of his walk away and didn't use any force on the supervising deputy Charles Holt.
Deputy Bill Adams came to the jail and with State Trooper Mike Turnbow and his bloodhound tracked Rupcke to his former residence on 34th Street which is about 21/2 miles from the jail.
Rupke made his escape a little before 9PM on January 12th 2005 and due to the jail's web site Channel 6 had his picture on the 10:00PM newscast.
Rupcke has been charged with 2nd degree escape which is a class D felony and carries a one to five year prison sentence. His name and charge has been entered in NCIC.
