History of McCracken County Jail


Kentucky is the only state in the nation to have an elected jailer.

The McCracken County Jail's rated capacity is 342. The jail, with stack-A- bunks, is capable of housing over 450 inmates.

The first jail was a log structure built in 1827 at the cost of $398

The present jail, built at a cost of over 8 million dollars, opened August 26, 1990.
