ClassD Program

Deputy Valerius supervises this program which has persons convicted and sentenced on ClassD felonies. The Department of Corrections classifies these state inmates as to whether they can work inside or outside the jail. The state pays the inmate $.63 a day for each day he/she works and the inmate gets one day off his/her sentence for every five days worked.

The ClassD's did $70,000 worth of restoration work on the Tilghman House. The house was occupied by General Lloyd Tilghman who was a Civil War General killed at the Battle of Vicksburg at Champion Hill. It is now a Civil War Interpretive Museum.

Inmate renovation on Tilghman House.

ClassD's have also renovated

  • Brooks Stadium, a municipal baseball field
  • Child Watch Center which deals with child abuse
  • St. Nicholas Clinic which provides health care for the needy
